This is an EXCERPT clip from an hour-long press conference interview sponsored by the State Department and NYU.
Sanchez arrived in the United States for the first time on an 80-day, 12-country tour that has so far taken her to cities in Brazil, Mexico and various European countries since late February. She had been denied a VISA permission to leave Cuba 21 times in the last five years (due to her reputation as a political activist).
Blogger Yoani Sánchez ended her three-day participation in technology and information seminars in New York remembering the impact of the Black Spring, a wave of massive detentions that took place in Cuba a decade ago. “I want to honor and remember those independent journalists, activists and peaceful opponents. They opened a road that we now continue to tread,” Sánchez said on Sunday. “They presented an opposition to which we feel we are heirs despite all the censorship and repression.”
