“Space-Time-o-Scope” by Olga Ast. Mixed Media.

“Space-Time-o-Scope” is one of Olga Ast’s sculptural installations from the “Space Traps” series that is a key component of a larger “Field of Vision” project that she has been working on from 1980s. It is a see-through structure composed of a row of transparent, mirrored and holed objects, which are hung individually on a horizontal line several feet above the ground on the average person’s height and sight-line. Elements are constantly rotating along the axis of their viewer’s gaze. This axis is the one along which this installation could be endlessly extended. Each piece revolves around itself, reflecting its environment and multiplying in mirrored surfaces of other elements of the installation. The structure is built to be modular – the individual elements can be reconfigured, subtracted and added ad infinitum. Each time this project is exhibited, a new version is created. This installation could develop endlessly because the nature of space is endless.
Since 1980-s various fragments of Space-Time-o-Scope were exhibited in different venues including the latest version in the “Time and Again” show at Haber Space gallery (Central Booking, New York).
